Pair of Armchairs (Poltrone da parata), late 19th century

This pair of armchairs dates from the late 19th century in Italy. The back, seat and apron are large rectangular sections covered in dark aged leather held in place with large circular bronze tacks. There are fluted finials at the top on each side of the back. The arm rests and legs are plain wood. There is a fancy section extending below the front apron that is carved with three bulbous shields and scrolls across the bottom. The leather shows signs of wear throughout, particularly on the seat and back.
