Provenance
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the antique dealers Antonio and Alessandro Jandolo, Rome on 28 October 1906 for 200 lire (set of six chairs).
Commentary
Set on onion feet, the legs of these chairs are essentially blocks with a small turned baluster. The stretchers, on the other hand, are fully turned: two on the front and one on each side. The finials are elaborately carved with curled leaves, and are gilded.
