This set of six chairs dates from the 17th century in Italy. The backs and seats are upholstered in leather affixed by large nail heads visible at each side rail and across the apron. The front legs are essentially blocks with small, turned balusters and are set on onion feet. The stretchers are fully turned: two on the front and one on each side. The gilded finials are elaborately carved with curled leaves. The back legs are plain.
