This ceramic basket and tray set is boat shaped. Both pieces of the set are cream colored and complex in shape and decoration. The basket is generally oval; although, wide flutes interrupt its curve on the exterior surface and allow a molded garland to hang across each flute from a continuous rope motif. The rope divides the basket horizontally into equal upper and lower sections. The lip of the upper section is scrolled with molded waves and curvaceous forms leading to a row of decorative voided motifs. The interior of the basket is smooth. It tapers to form a small relaxed oval at the bottom. The periphery of the oval tray shows the same molded, scrolling, wave and shell motifs that are found on the basket and decorative voids in the same pattern as the basket. The tray tapers into a scalloped octagon shape delineated by a continuous, narrow rope motif. The oval bottom of the basket fits into the tray’s octagon.
