This small oval portrait of a seated male wearing a fancy turban and robe is completed in watercolor and gilding on ivory.  This light skinned man has a white mustache, white curly sideburns and large dark eyes.  His body is turned slightly to our right and he gazes intently in that direction.  His turban is made of fancy red, gold and blue material with a wide gold edging.   At the front top of the turban are several blue jewels encircled with white gems.  A string of pearls drapes from the turban’s crown across his forehead.  There are two fancy plumes at the top.  His shirt overlaps across his chest and is made of light blue material decorated with gold medallions and is edged in gold with blue and red floral designs.  He wears several pearl necklaces around his neck that have jeweled medallions hanging down.  He is seated on a chair that is upholstered in red and gold fabric.  Part of the chair visible to our left echoes the gold, red and blue of his shirt.  The background is a blue background with visible white brush strokes.
