This vertically positioned bronze medal is a miniature plaque. The corners of the plaque are flattened, creating an eight-sided shape. The piece’s title, La Peinture, translates to "The Painting." On the front side of the plaque is a figure of a female painter in relief. The woman is naked and appears to be sitting on a chair. She faces to our right with her neck twisted and her head facing back. Her short wavy hair falls over her ear and forehead. She appears to have an average-sized nose and a pointy chin. In her right hand, she grasps a paintbrush with two fingers over the top. In her left hand, she holds a pad or canvas and a few more paintbrushes. The brush in her right hand rests on the top edge of the surface, as though poised to begin the painting. On the reserve side, a branch with spikey needles extends from the bottom of the plaque up along the side to our right, curving slightly at the top. A sprig with what appear to be flower petals goes from the bottom about halfway up the side to our left. Both sides of the plaque are greyish in appearance, with variations in shading. The plaque is signed A Ch, and stamped Bronze, on the edge. The plaque is displayed in an open, decorative rectangular box lined with a deep blue fabric. The fabric is held in place with gold-colored studs all around. A simple gold-colored clasp is centered on the bottom edge of the box.
