Low armchair (Poltrona bassa), late 19th century

This Italian armchair is fashioned of walnut with the seat and back rail upholstered in a gold brocade fabric. This wide, low chair has wide wood arms, side arm supports that form an X-shape, and a wide stretcher. These pieces have a carved floral and vine motif with circular medallions. The upholstered back section has a wood frame with a scallop like carving rising at the upper center.
