The set of 19th century silver chopsticks fits in a scabbard with a knife to make an elegantly portable set of eating utensils. It resembles the size and shape of a closed ladies’ fan. The silver is heavily tarnished but the mother of pearl is translucent, iridescent, and primarily pink in color. The blade of the knife fits into the back of a thin matching mother of pearl scabbard joining the two pieces in the center. At the center joint there is a silver square with a silver open circle welded to it, perhaps used to attach the set to a string or sash. Two small silver brackets at the bottom and about a third of the way up the hilt also help join the front and back sides of the scabbard. A notch in the brackets allows the two silver chopsticks to be slipped in and stored on the front of the scabbard.  From the reverse side, when the knife is stored, the set looks like a long length of mother of pearl with silver bands at the ends and in the center.
