This very small mid-19th Century English rectangular box of gilded silver is used  for holding aromatic vinegar, smelling salts, or the like. On the somewhat tarnished, mostly silver, top is a very detailed etching of the Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. The large structure has two tall rectangular towers on each end, next to short two-storied sections, and in the center is the main four- storied section. What appears to be a railing fronts the top of the center section with three dormers above and behind. This same railing-like structure surrounds the bottom of the entire building. The towers have multiple levels, each demarcated with two horizontal lines and cantilevered tops with clocks on the four sides near the top of the tower on the left. Multiple indentations, possibly windows, line the facade of all levels in each section. Another three-storied structure is to the right of the right tower with details similar to the other structures. It is not clear if this building is part of the Osborne House or an adjacent building. A short way in front of the House a long railing, opening towards the right side for a descending stairway lines what appears to be a very rough, rocky cliff. This entire scene is edged by an ornate border on the box with leaf and circle shaped decorations. The vertical silver front of this box has a multi-petalled flower in the center with two leaf-like shapes etched on each side and wavy, horizontal lines, interrupted by diamond shapes, marking the remainder of the front side. When the lid of the box is raised, a gilded grail formed by branching overlapping c-shape curves, covers the inside top, presumably separating the aromatic substances below. On the inside of the lid several identifying marks are stamped in gold.  The silver bottom of the box has a circle formed by scalloped c-shapes with a six-petalled flower in the center.  The remainder of the box’s surface is marked by wavy, horizontal lines imbedded with occasional diamond shapes.
