This small cylindrical Japanese box is made of wood lacquered in black and gold. The convex top extends about a third of the way down the side of the container. The surface is smooth throughout. On the shinyblack lacquered background, a graceful gold vine bearing single stemmed leaves loops around the sides of both the bottom and top. On the flat center of the top of the box, we see a gold three-petaled flower encircled by a border of gold.
