This small rectangular music box, made in the nineteenth century in Switzerland, likely was made to hang, as it has a ring at the top and a small, metal cylinder dangling from the bottom.  The music box itself is octagonal with the top and bottom sides the longest, the lateral sides intermediate in length, and the slanted corners shortest. The rectangular center is heavily ornamented with enamel set in gold. In the very center is a nosegay of red and white flowers with green leaves against a pale rose shiny background placed within an almond-shaped fluted gold border, itself against a gold background which fills out the rectangle. Small turquoise stones are set in each corner of the rectangle. This inner rectangle is bordered by a blue frame decorated with gold semicircles on each side interspersed with gold leaf-like shapes. The blue frame is framed in a plain gold frame. A pair of sideways s-shapes, mirror-imaged, line the outside top and bottom with a round gold ball in the center attached to the gold ring at the top and the metal cylinder at the bottom.
