Acquried by Mary Jane Morgan (d. 1885), American fine and decorative arts collector and second wife of the shipping, railroad and iron magnate Charles Morgan (1795-1878), at an unknown date.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner at the sale of the collection of Mary Jane Morgan, lot 1750, for $15 on 18 March 1886, through the art dealer Frederick Keppel and Co., New York.
Commentary
