Anders Zorn - Self-Portrait with Model II, 1899

Anders Zorn (Mora, 1860 - 1920, Mora)

Self-Portrait with Model II and Mrs. Cleveland I, 1899

Etching on wove paper , 35.9 x 25.9 cm (14 1/8 x 10 3/16 in.)

Commentary

Resting in front of his easel and smoking a cigarette, Zorn takes a short pause from his work. A half-dressed model in the background looks attentively at him. With this juxtaposition, Zorn created a powerful tension between artist and model. This etching is based on the painted version made three years earlier.
