This black-and-white etching is a portrait of the Swedish author, August Strindberg. He is shown from his waist up while seated at a table. He is shown in a three-quarter view to the left. His broad, unlined forehead and abundant, unruly, light hair suggest a young man; although, his baggy, dark suit and walrus mustache make him seem older. His right forearm rests on the table before him. There is a sliver of a tall bookcase visible behind him on the far right of the scene. Signed and dated on the plate in lower left: Zorn 1910.
Entered Isabella Stewart Gardner's collection at an unknown date.
