This etching is printed on paper and depicts a seated male figure in front of a dockside scene. This dark haired man has a beard and is dressed in pants, a jacket, and a hat.  He is visible from the knees up and is oriented toward our right.  His hand to our left is resting in his lap and his arm to our right is draped across the back of the dock.  On the dock to our right is a metal cleat on which ropes are attached.  Several boats float in the waterway behind him.  There is a loosely sketched boat to our right that has two figures; both are rowing although one is standing and the other sitting.  Another dock is visible further back on the waterway where several boats are docked.  People are depicted standing on the end of the dock.  The far edge of the waterway is lined with buildings that are several stories tall.   Some appear to be residential and others commercial.  There is a taller building on the horizon to our right and a tall slender smokestack in the left center with smoke coming out.
