This rectangular horizontal black and white etching on paper depicts a crowded dock scene with boats visible in the center and to our left.  To our right, brick buildings arise several floors above the dock with many windows, doors and stairways visible.  A man wearing a brimmed hat is seen walking out of one of these doorways.  Several sailboats with their sails tied up are moored at the dock with men working on their decks.  Behind these boats is a waterway with the masts of many sailboats visible on the far horizon.
