This lithograph depicts the head and shoulders of a light-skinned male and is done in black ink on cream-colored paper. This front-facing figure has very dark eyes and he looks directly at the viewer with a stern expression on his face. He has messy white medium-length hair, dark eyebrows and a white handlebar mustache and goatee. His head rests on the slender fingers of his hand to our right. He is dressed in a jacket and there is a large floppy bow at the neckline of his shirt. To our left this lithograph is inscribed in ink: ‘Will R’. Inscribed across the lower margin in graphite is: ‘E. deGoncourt – To Mrs. Gardner – Will Rothstein.’
