This woodblock was used in the 16th-17th centuries to make prints on paper. The large full-length, forward-facing figure in the center of the block is St. Anthony of Padua holding the Baby Jesus in his arms.  The baby has his right arm around the saint's neck and, like the saint, is looking at us.  St. Anthony is wearing a long, flowing monk's robe with long voluminous sleeves. The baby appears to be naked--at least from the waist up.  Both saint and baby wear haloes.  Angels surrounded by foliage appear in the corners on the upper left and right of the heads.  On the lower right of the woodblock is an image of religious buildings with a banner below saying in Italian "The Temple of St. Anthony."  On the lower left of the woodblock is a monument--a sculpture of a rider on a horse or mule mounted on a pedestal.  In the bottom middle of the woodblock is a title in Italian saying "St. Anthony of Padua."  This entire scene occupies almost all of the woodblock's surface and is enclosed all around by a scroll-like border of foliage.
