This Japanese inro was a case for carrying medicines and other small items.  It is made of gold lacquered wood that serves as a background for a decorative rooster on one side and a hen on the other.  The rooster has beautiful blue and gold feathers, with the tail feathers being the brightest blue. The body is done in patterns of blue and gold, while the coxcomb, wattle, and eye socket are a cherry red.  He stands tall in profile on a cylindrical object like a log or a drum on its side, which reaches around to the other side of the case.  His beak is open and his head thrown back.  On the other side of the case, below the drum-like object, is the smaller hen of similar colors to the rooster.  Her head is turned toward the crowing rooster, and there is a baby chick close by her. Scattered on the background are leaves and other such foliage in blue, gold, and red.  On the top of the case is a Japanese inscription that  identifies the maker as Kajikawa and bears his red seal.
