This German amulet is entitled, ‘Flight into Egypt’. It is crafted of pierced silver with gilding and glass. At the top is a silver crown-shaped medallion that depicts two large birds feeding on a basket of foliage. There is a loop at the top and three chains hanging below the bird scene. The chains hold a round pierced silver medallion that depicts the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt. On our right side, Mary, holding the Infant Jesus, is seated on a donkey. Mary and Joseph have halos. Joseph is on foot leading the donkey toward our left. He carries a large rod with a leaf growing out of the top. There is a large circular star above them with rays emanating outward. These figures are backed by a textured green glass background. There is a thick circular rim with grooves and leaves etched into it. Beyond that, entwined coils and ribbons form another rim. There are two ornate knobs on each side and at the bottom a bird figure holds a loop in its feet. Hanging from that loop is a metal bead. The flip side depicts a sheep carrying a banner with vines and leaves. This figure is backed with dark purple textured glass.
