Collection of Louis-Henri Roger de Cahusac, Marquis de Caux (1775-1839).
Bequeathed from the Marquis de Caux to his wife Sophie Muget, Duchesse de Valmy (1802-1892).
By descent to the Henriette Kellermann, Comtesse de Reculot (1841-1920) in 1893.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the Comtesse de Reculot for 45,000 francs on 24 September 1895 through Fernand Robert, Isabella Stewart Gardner's regular agent in Paris.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
