This small wooden sculpture features a man and a lion holding a dog in its mouth, all on a rectangular base. On the viewers’ right, the male lion has its tail tucked between its legs, curling up against its flank. Its head is lowered to pick up the dog from its back. The dog has a long snout with its mouth opened, its eyes are large, and its long and wide ears are down. The lion’s face has large bulging eyes. On the viewer’s left, the man is dressed in a sort of pants tucked into high boots, and a long coat open at the waist. The man is looking at the lion with his arms raised above his head as if to suggest terror but perhaps also an attempt to drive the lion away. The man has a round, fleshy face, large bulging eyes, an upturned nose. His thick lips are pursed and downturned. Both of the man’s hands are missing.
