Large-grained Greek island marble from Thasos, 47.5 cm (18 11/16 in.)
This cream white marble statue depicts a torso without a head or arms, which seem to have been broken off. The shoulders are round and smooth with some discoloration possibly from weathering. The shoulder on the viewer’s left is slightly lower than the shoulder on the right, so the torso bends slightly to the right. The arm on the left is broken off above the elbow. The arm on the right right is missing from below the armpit. The places where the statue is broken are bumpy and rough. The chest is muscular with nipples. The rippled abdomen goes down to a smooth circular shaped stomach. A line in the center of the torso defines the abdomen and continues down to the small circle belly button.
