Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the collector Ms. Charles Hunter (Mary E. Smyth, 1856-1933), Epping, England for £75 on about 9 July 1920, through the artist John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) and the auction house Christie, Manson & Woods.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
