Purchased by Dikran Khan Kélékian (1868–1951) at the Flameng auction, Galerie Georges Petit on 26 May 1919 for $1800, lot 122. [as a portrait of the French composer, Hector Berlioz (1803-1869)]
Loaned by Kélékian to the Brooklyn Museum in 1921.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner at the American Art Association auction of Dikran Khan Kélékian's collection, New York on 30-31 January 1922 for $1950, lot 11, through American artist Louis Kronberg (1872–1965). (as a portrait of Berlioz)
