Julius Caesar, 16th century

This bronze casting of the bust of Julius Caesar dates from the 16th century and is a little over a foot tall. Julius Caesar is depicted with his head tilted slightly upward and toward the right of the viewer. He has wavy closely-cropped hair, large ears, eyes and nose. He appears with a soulful expression on his face with a slightly furrowed brow. This bust is displayed on an ornate octagonal base with columns at each corner. It is decorated with gold-colored vine and scroll-like ornamentation against a dark green background and is banded at the top and bottom with narrow circular borders.
