Furnishing or Garment Fabric with Pomegranate Motif, about 1500-1550
Cut voided silk velvet brocaded with silk and gilt yarns, 27.9 x 61 cm (11 x 24 in.)
Rectangular piece of purple striped cut velvet, with worn areas revealing a red satin foundation. A pattern of two pomegranates is carried out in brocaded white silk and in yellow silk wound with gold. The piece is composed of many small fragments and is edged with green velvet and gold braid and lined with white linen.
