Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the art dealer Seligmann & Co., Paris on 11 March 1905 for $8,000, through the painter Joseph Lindon Smith (1863-1950).

Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
