Collection of the painter and antiquarian Augusto Alberici (b. 1846) by 1896.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from an unknown dealer in Rome for 100 francs on 2 November 1897, through the painter Joseph Lindon Smith (1863-1950) and the art dearler Alfredo Barsanti.
