This oil and tempera painting shows the seated Virgin Mary seat holding the Christ child on a ledge in front of her.  She is dressed in a plain red gown with white cuffs and has a blue shawl that is lined in green draped about her shoulders and over her head.  She has light skin, brown eyes, reddish hair and gazes peacefully outward.  She has a delicate transparent veil across her forehead that cascades along each side of her head.  She uses her left hand to support the Christ child who is seated on a red pillow on the parapet in front of her.  He is a chubby light-skinned baby with wispy light brown hair and wears a pale reddish tunic.  He gazes upward toward our right and holds his right hand upward with two fingers raised.  He holds a goldfinch in his left hand.    The background to our right shows a man, dressed in a red garment and holding a cross in his left hand, walking among light tan trees next to a blue body of water.  Above is a pale sky with delicate white clouds.  On our left in the background is a gently draped dark green curtain.
