Web Commentary
Isabella Gardner owned several complete Renaissance wedding chests or panels removed from them, as well as other paintings that decorated the interior walls of wealthy houses. She displayed these objects in this gallery and the Early Italian Room. Here two cassone panels have been set into the wainscoting of the room. A cassone painted in monochrome contrasts with a panel decorated with raised plaster figures.
