Collection of the art dealer Frédéric Spitzer (1815-1890).
Isabella Stewart Gardner purchased at the Spitzer collection sale, Paris on 31 May 1893 (No. 1384) for 1176 francs through the art collector Gustave Dreyfus and Ralph W. Curtis (1854–1922), American painter and collector.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
