Cupid with Shield, 19th century

This Italian stone statue of a cupid is seen at a three-quarters view from slightly below against a dark blue background. This standing nude cupid is chubby and has shoulder-length curly hair. The cupid looks straight ahead with a peaceful expression. On the side closest to us, they hold a teardrop shaped shield with the pointed end on the ground. The shield has carvings of a bear-like figure on the bottom and an eagle with outstretched wings on the top. This cupid’s other hand is bent to touch their chest. This statue is displayed on the pedestal of a slender fluted column.
