This is a gelatin silver print of Alexander R. James. The background of the piece is a creamy brown color and is bordered by a dark brown frame. The subject is a light-skinned older man facing to our left from the chest up. He is drawn in dark grey pencil. He has wispy but neat hair, a large forehead, thick eyebrows, small but piercing eyes, large ears, and large bushy mustache that joins to a beard that is lightly drawn. His face is the focus of the picture and from the neck down it gets lighter until the point above his chest where everything else fades with the background. The man is wearing a suit and tie that is lightly drawn.
