Installed on the pediment of a fountain (museum nos. SGe3 and SGe4) with two other sculptures (museum nos. SG-8e1 and SG-8e4) at a post-antique date.
Possibly from a home in Zagarolo, near Rome.
The fountain was purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner through the art historian and archaeologist Richard Norton (1872-1918) on 28 October 1901.
