This is a portable altarpiece with a central panel and two “wings” or side panels to either side. These wings are hinged.  The central panel depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child on her lap with a representation of the crucified Christ on the register above.  The two side panels portray saints and are hinged and can be closed to cover the center panel. Mary is the focus of the center panel and has a halo and is seated wearing a reddish-brown dress, a dark gray robe across her lap and a blue shawl over her head and shoulders.  She has gold ornamentation at her left wrist and around her neck.  The Christ child has a halo, is seen wearing a scarlet and tan outfit, and is nursing at Mary’s right breast.  Both haloes are elaborate with red and gold elements and the figures are peacefully looking at each other.  The background is red and gold with a vine sculpted arch above them.  There is a triangular shaped panel at the top that depicts the torso of the crucified Christ.  His wounds are visible on his right side and on his hands, which are held across his abdomen.  There are three carved vine-like pieces extending above the center panel.  The left panel is tall and thin. It depicts two standing saints: one is female and wears a dark blue gown and tan shawl. The other is a male figure who wears a green and tan robe.  Above these figures is a small triangular section that depicts the torso of a haloed figure wearing a blue gown and red robe.  The right panel is laid out similarly to the left panel. The lower section of this panel is a standing female figure who fazes downward.  She is dressed in a red dress with a dark shawl and holds a shield in her left hand and a reed in her right hand. Above her is a standing male figure with a beard, gray hair, a book in his left hand and a staff in his right.  He is dressed in dark blue and rose-colored robes.  The small triangular section above shows the torso of a female saint dressed in a dark rose dress with a dark blue shawl that is trimmed in gold.  She holds her hands in prayer. Each side panel has two leaf-like pieces extending at the top. The background of the three panels is dark red and gold.
