This small horizontal oil painting is a serene scene of a lagoon in Venice.  The bottom third of the painting is mostly occupied by water and the upper two thirds is consumed by sky.  Toward the bottom left of the painting, there is a boat facing toward land at the horizon on the right side of the painting.  On the boat there is a small figure dressed in green, holding an oar, and seated amidst tan, descended sails.  Between this boat and the distant land there are two other boats with raised tan and brown sails and a few pilings.  There are smaller boats and pilings scattered along the horizon on the left side of the painting.  The sky is gently dappled in peach, greenish-blue and white, and the light casts a peachy glow on the water and shadows in front of the boats and the pilings.  The water in the immediate foreground is greener and the paint somewhat cracked.  On the bottom left is the artist’s signature.
