This small horizontal oil painting portrays three groups of people at the beach.  The sand takes up the bottom two thirds of the painting, above which lies a narrow strip of green water and a pink and green sky.  The three groups of people are each seated on the sand and facing partly toward our right and are angled toward the water.  The first group, which is nearest to us, includes three figures bunched together on a tan blanket.  They are all wearing straw hats with decorations on top, and they respectively have black, red, and blonde hair. They wear black and white dresses.  The second group, located at the center of the canvas, is a pair.  The person  on the right is sitting erect, wearing a white dress with a red belt or sash and black boots, and holding a red umbrella overhead.  The person to the left is shorter and wearing a tan jacket and straw hat with a black band.  The third group, seated on the left side of the canvas and closer to the shore, is also a pair, but there is another person standing to their left.  There are other, smaller figures closer to the water on the right side of the painting.  Because of the free brushwork and the soft colors in the sand, water, and sky, the figures on the beach are somewhat indistinct and blend into the scene.
