The setting of this painting is a cavernous hall with a row of high rectangular windows on the upper left and three arched openings filling the back wall through which we glimpse blue sky and beige ground in the distance. An internal door and two niches line the right wall and a candelabra hangs from the ceiling in the center. This dark space is packed with a multitude of people barely visible, the majority seated at the two sides of a long table which fills the left half of the painting.  Women are seated on the right side, most but not all with bare heads, v-shaped necklines on their bodices, and discernible but not distinctive features visible. Men are seated on the left side of the table, but except for the first two men on the front left, they are largely  in shadows with only hints of medium skinned foreheads lined down the side of the table. The first man is standing, but leans forward as he seems to be pouring from a heavy, large vessel for a seated, long white bearded man in a muted coral robe turned to the front but looking back at his seated companions.  At the far end of the table in the center sits Jesus Christ with a halo. He is wearing a pink garment and a dark blue robe. Next to him, on the viewer’s right side,is his mother Mary. She has light skin, a halo, and is wearing a red and white garment.  Light streams in from an unseen source in the front, which illuminates the line of women’s upper bodies on the right side of the table as well as a female servant in the center front.  A few other people  scattered in the viewer’s right half of the painting are involved in tasks such as carrying or pouring drinks from large jugs. A veiled woman stands at the side of the table, overseeing the feast.
