This vertical tempera painting shows the image of Christ on the cross surrounded by angels and mourners in the foreground and hillsides and sky in the background. The figure of Christ is placed at the top center of the panel. Christ’s body is pale, long, lean, and muscular. His right foot is crossed over the left and his head is tilted slightly down to the viewer’s left. Blood is dripping from the hands, top of the foot, and upper chest to your left. Christ’s long hair and beard are reddish in color. A pinkish drape is wrapped around his body at the hips. An angel appears on each side of Christ’s body, wearing pink dresses and green shawls draped over their wings. Beneath him, on the ground, from left to right is a tall figure in a floor-length brown hooded robe stands with hands pressed together and head tilted slightly toward Christ. In the center, kneeling, is a figure wearing a white-trimmed red robe. This figure has arms wrapped around the base of the cross. To your right is a barefoot figure dressed in multicolored robes. Halos appear above the heads of each of the figures in this scene. At the bottom center of the panel is a skull and crossbones.
