Purchased by the painter Joseph Lindon Smith (1863–1950) in Florence around 1898. Loaned for exhibition to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston 26 April 1899–22 October 1900 as attributed to Memmi. Loaned again 11 June 1909–18 October 1912 as attributed to Bicci di Lorenzo.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the painter Joseph Lindon Smith (1863-1950), after October 1912.
