The Motherhood Exchange

An Intimate and Universal Community Conversation

Thursday
May 7, 2026

7 - 8:30 pm

What is a mother? What does motherhood mean to you? Join us for an exchange of ideas on the persona of “mother” facilitated by exhibiting artist Jamie Diamond and Heather Ann Paxson, Associate Dean for Faculty, MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Tap into your own stories of maternal figures or experiences of motherhood as together, we work to forge a personal yet communal understanding of one of the most universally fraught, beloved, represented, studied, and misunderstood relationships humans can have.

Participants will be asked to bring a photograph of their mother or a mother figure in their lives to share during the conversation. Details will be emailed upon registration. For questions, email Angela Lombardi at alombardi@isgm.org.
