The Imani Winds bring a virtuoso showcase of wind music to Calderwood Hall. D’Rivera’s Wapango and Coleman’s Afro-Cuban Concerto combine the rich sonorities of the wind quintet with riffs and rhythms drawn from Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean. From his early lyrical period, Carter’s Quintet for Winds is a vivid, playful romp filled with jazzy syncopation, while works by Bozza, Tomasi, and Hillborg showcase the group’s fiery chemistry and stunning technical prowess.
