For the culmination of their year as the Gardner Museum's Choreographers-in-Residence, duo All Ready gives the world premiere of three newly commissioned performances inspired by—and created especially for—the Museum.
Performances begin on the hour at 4, 5, 7, and 8 pm. Pieces 1, 2, and 3 run in succession, with a brief pause between each piece. A full performance will last about 40 minutes.
Included with Museum admission. No tickets required, seating is first-come, first-served.
Piece 1: El Jaleo
The opening movement pays homage to John Singer Sargent's iconic El Jaleo, and his and Isabella's shared love of Spanish culture. DJ Donghyun has created a collage of flamenco-inspired music, incorporating the flamenco records Sargent gave to Isabella. (Isabella's original records also provide the music between the movements.)
Piece 2: Life of Isabella
With choreography rooted in Latin dance, All Ready evokes the New World flowering of Latin music in Afro-Caribbean music. This salsa-inflected movement celebrates Isabella's love for other cultures and her colorful, passionate life.
Piece 3: Escape the Ordinary
Isabella's museum manifests both her unbounded embrace of many cultures, and her genius for surprising and enlightening juxtapositions. All Ready's channel-surfing finale enacts this eclectic spirit, juxtaposing a huge range of styles of music and dance. They hope that the finale evokes a modern take on Isabella's sense of delight and her open eyes and ears.
All Ready is a spirited female dance duo from South Korea composed of longtime friends Salang Yang and Hyein Kang. Yang and Kang met 13 years ago at a Latin dance school in Seoul, where they learned ballroom, modern, and Latin dances such as cha cha, rumba, samba, jive, limba, and other styles that have come to influence their work today. They named themselves "All Ready" because they are "all ready to perform all kinds of dance." Their dance and performance style also caught the attention of Jennifer Lopez, which brought them to NBC's 2019 season of "World of Dance."
DJ Donghyun is a producer, dancer, and DJ based in Seoul. He makes rhythms and grooves from all kinds of music to rock parties and create great vibes.
Tickets are required and include Museum admission.
Adults $15, seniors $12, students $10, free for members and children 17 and under.
