Volunteer at the Gardner

Share Isabella’s hospitality with today’s visitors as a Gardner Museum volunteer

Museum Volunteers

If you are someone with an open mind, who delights in learning from and interacting with all kinds of people, consider joining our volunteer program. A background in art or art history is not necessary. The volunteer schedule is flexible and includes Thursday evening and weekend shifts. Volunteers meet visitors from near and far, answer questions about the collection and wayfinding, gather visitor feedback, and help people fall in love with the Gardner.

Still have some questions? Email us at volunteerinfo@isgm.org to learn more.

Museum Teacher Program

Do you enjoy interacting with people of all ages? Do you have a love for art, teaching, and museums? Are you a good listener who is curious about other people’s observations and ideas? If so, consider joining the Gardner’s Museum Teacher program.

Museum Teachers play a vital role in introducing the Gardner Museum, its collections, and its exhibitions to a wide variety of audiences through guided gallery experiences. Using interactive teaching methods, Museum Teachers encourage close looking, facilitate discussion in the galleries, and help visitors make personally meaningful connections with the collection.

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum seeks a diverse group of individuals who share a love of art, teaching, and learning from others to join the Museum Teacher Program. A strong interest in open-ended teaching approaches, a desire to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, and excellent communication skills are essential. Previous museum teaching and knowledge of art history are not necessary.

The Museum is not currently accepting applications for Museum Teachers. Please check back at a later date for more information.
