Teens Behind the Scenes

From 2006–19, the Teens Behind the Scenes were the youthful ambassadors of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

What is Teens Behind the Scenes?

The Teens Behind the Scenes were highly motivated, energetic, and committed Boston youth who worked at the Museum to learn about the Gardner and its collection, as well as careers in museums and the arts. The Teens Behind the Scenes frequently engaged with Artists-in-Residence and collaborated with staff across departments.

During community events, they shared their knowledge with visitors and led activities to help visitors connect with the Museum. The Teens Behind the Scenes sparked new ways of thinking about the Gardner, especially through the annual Teen Takeover events that they produced from 2016-19 that highlighted local young artists and performers. Teens Behind the Scenes alumni have held positions at the Museum of Science, Children’s Museum, the Old South Meeting House, the Denver Art Museum, the Frick Collection, and other institutions in Boston and beyond.
