Morning at the Museum
Fridays, 10-11 am
Welcome to Morning at the Museum. We invite you to unplug, disconnect, and experience the Gardner at a more intimate moment, before it opens to the general public.
Pause and breathe in the scent of the flowers in the Courtyard. Take a seat in the cloisters for a moment of solitude. Seek out new details and connections in the galleries. In Calderwood Hall, a guided meditation session offers an opportunity to ground yourself as the Museum wakes up around you.
THE FLOW
Museum capacity is reduced for this program, letting you study Isabella’s unique curation and the rotating Courtyard installations at your own pace. Galleries will be open and you may encounter staff preparing for the day, whether it be Museum teachers leading student groups or horticulturists sweeping the Courtyard gravel.
Your ticket includes admission to one of two 15-minute guided meditation sessions offered in Calderwood Hall at both 10:10 and 10:40 am so you can follow the flow that works best for you.
If you hope to take home a memento of your morning, stop by Gift at the Gardner for some leisurely shopping starting at 10:30 am. Then, as the Museum opens to the public, so too does Café G. Wrap up your morning with a coffee or a sweet treat before facing the rest of the day or feel free to continue basking in the beauty of the Gardner for as long as you like.
Guided Meditation Sessions
India Clark
India's art-based mindfulness experiences make space for compassion and attention to what feels personally meaningful. Her Deep Seeing® process pairs guided centering with images from the museum's collection as gentle prompts for grounded self-reflection.
Marlene Boyette
Participants will be invited into a grounding practice to open the experience, followed by an immersive sound meditation with crystal and metal singing bowls, chimes, gongs, and other instruments. Projected imagery and visual prompts offer an additional option for engagement. There is no singular way to participate; each person is welcome to listen, rest, sit, and be present with the sounds and imagery in a manner that feels most accessible and settling for their body, mind, and nervous system.
