3 - 9 pm
Join us on the first Thursday of every month for a dynamic evening of creativity and community. Museum admission is free from 3 pm through 9 pm and programs kick off at 5 pm. Explore the magic of the Museum’s gardens and galleries at night and stop by Café G for dinner and drinks.
Become the beauty of the Historic palace’s collections, horticulture, and engagements as you walk in. Enjoy the music curated by young musician and Berklee student Maliq Wynn accompanied by members of his Quartet as they respond to the current exhibition Steve McQueen: Lynching Tree. Through this work, artist Steve McQueen reveals the hidden and erased histories of slavery and violence that haunt the American landscape we inhabit, and the ways we negotiate the possibilities of the world we seek to create..
Live Music with Maliq Wynn Quartet in the Courtyard | 5:30 - 6:30 PM & 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Enjoy a dynamic performance curated by 22 year old musician and Berklee Student Maliq Wynn with Devon Gates on bass, Mwanzi Harriott on guitar, and Lemuel Marc on trumpet. This group of musicians will encapsulate the attributes of Black American Improvised Music over time with the historical experiences of Black communities in the US.
Altarwork with Johnette Marie in the Education Studio | 5:00 - 8:00 PM
Engage your spirit—enter a portal space created for processing, prayer, or simply to pause. Curated and designed by Luminary & Medicine Maker, Johnette Marie. This space explores altarwork; honors the natural world and is inspired by Black culture and spiritual practices which acknowledge the living, the dead, the seen, and unseen. Through altarwork we can grapple with Steve Mcqueen: Lynching Tree and the legacy it represents, while making room for the voiceless of the past, as we aim to be whole in the present. Enter this portal as your ancestor’s sweet dream or bare witness as an ally. Sounds and seating provided to inspire your stillness and quiet reflection.
