Who is Isabella Stewart Gardner?

On November 1, the Gardner Museum will release Isabella Stewart Gardner: A Life, the first new biography of the Museum’s remarkable and unconventional founder to be produced by the Museum in nearly a century.

Join us for a conversation with curators and co-authors Nathaniel Silver and Diana Seave Greenwald as they share untold histories of Isabella, in anticipation of the release of their new book.

Drawing on previously unpublished research from the Museum’s archives, this dialogue will begin to offer new perspectives on Isabella’s early life, the foundations of her wealth, and how she built both her collection and creative community in Boston in the early twentieth century. Learn more about the world Isabella lived in, the events that shaped her life, and how the Museum continues her expansive legacy in the twenty-first century, embracing our history’s complexity in all its facets.
