The Gardner Museum is thrilled to celebrate ten years of the intrepid work–and glorious music–of Boston’s Castle of Our Skins. To celebrate this milestone, the ensemble will perform two world premieres on a program of works that touch on global identities, histories, stories, and subjects that are both personal and universal.
This concert features a world premiere of “Somnyama” by Bongani Ndodana-Breen, commissioned by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in response to the 2022 exhibition Being Muholi: Portraits as Resistance, and the world premiere of “Black Woman Tears” by Renée C. Baker, commissioned by Castle of Our Skins.
Ashleigh Gordon is the Artistic and Executive Director of Castle of Our Skins and Anthony R. Green is the Associate Artistic Director.
Music at the Gardner is supported by Nora McNeely Hurley / Manitou Fund. Hemenway & Barnes LLP is the lead corporate sponsor of the Weekend Concert Series. The Museum thanks its generous concert donors: The Coogan Concert in memory of Peter Weston Coogan; Fitzpatrick Family Concert; James Lawrence Memorial Concert; Alford P. The piano is dedicated as the Alex d’Arbeloff Steinway.
