The thrilling young Thalea Quartet make their Gardner debut with a program anchored by one of Beethoven's "Rasumovsky" quartets. William Grant Still composed his set of “musical portraits” in his gorgeous musical language that seasons sophisticated mid-century writing with the sweet richness of African-American spirituals and song. Fellow Arkansan (and NEC graduate) Florence Price was similarly drawn to the rich heritage of African-American music in her gorgeous string quartet.
